Waaaaaay too long

My God, where has the time been? It's been almost 2 months since I've last posted anything on here. I've been extremely busy with all the holiday hustle and bustle and whatnot. A few things that are newsworthy though:

I just completed 10 cards for the "Treasure Chest of Art" charity auction in Chicago, Il. I'm pretty happy with how most of them turned out and hopefully whoever ends up scoring the ol' chest will be pretty happy with everything in it. Plus, it's for a good cause so that's a plus. The scans of said cards will follow the next order of business.

Secondly, I have been tapped to do the coloring for the upcoming graphic novel "Red Wet Dirt" by Shot in the Dark Comics. I'm about halfway done with it and it's gonna be a good read. I won't post any images from the book on here unless I get approval, but then again, anything good is worth the wait, right? I'll keep everyone posted.

Detroit Fanfare Thoughts

Well, the 1st annual Detroit Fanfare was this past weekend and I must say I had a great time. Even though it was smaller than Motor City Comic Con, it seemed much better organized and maintained. Everyone was super nice and the promoters even had volunteers going around asking the artists and vendors if they needed anything and what our thoughts were on the show (all positive), which I thought was very classy. I met some new great people and caught up with some chums, which was very cool. My hat goes off to everyone involved with the event! Can't really say the same for the Youmacon event, but that's a different story altogether.

This was my 3rd convention as a guest and each time is a learning experience. All I have to say is that I will be much better prepared and have more variety for the next convention I will be part of. A good quote I heard in conversation this weekend was "the best way to get into the industry is by diving in head first". Gotta do what ya gotta do and keep doing it.

The two cards above I did during some down time and I think they both turned out well, especially Harley, since I need to practice drawing the female form more often.

Detroit Fanfare

Another set of 3 blood-soaked zombies. My favorite part of doing these is the addition of the "blood"; I make a few droplets of food coloring fall onto the card, then I just shake it to give it a more random look. I'm not sure if I'll do more of these at the convention; I don't think the promoters would appreciate me flinging blood everywhere.

Set of 3 Hellboy-themed. A cartoonish version of red head, the badass Croenan, and Ron Perlman as Hellboy.

A set of 4 of a few Bats villains. Clockwise from top left: Joker, Harley Quinn, The Scarecrow, and my personal favorite baddie, Two-Face. Really fun to do these, and I'll try to get a few more of these done this weekend.

This weekend I'll be in attendance with Andrew Shirey in the Artist's Alley at the 1st Detroit Fanfare in Dearborn, MI. I'm really stoked for this one, as it just seems like a much more rounded convention and the promoters have really brought together alot of great events for charity, comic fans, and fans of art in general. I'll be on hand with these you see right now along with a slew of other goodies. See you there!

Way too long.

It has been way too long since I have posted anything and that's due to my work schedule and my internship. But, it's keeping me busy so what the hell, right? Motor City Comic Con is Halloween weekend and I'm super stoked for it. I've been trying to keep up with my artwork, but obviously because of my work schedule I've only been able to do so much at a time. In the meantime, here's a few sets of cards I have completed. I'll be doing these all through the Con, and into infinity and beyond. More stuff to come.

I've had a few extra Iron Man cards floating around and decided to finish a set of 8. I threw in a couple War Machines and an Iron Monger to boot. My personal favorite is the "briefcase armor" Iron Man.

Bounty Hunters....we don't need their kind here.

You know, considering the fact that I'm a Star Wars geek and the movies are easily in my top 10 of all time....I rarely draw them. I have no idea why. But what the hell, I decided to do a few quick sketch cards featuring some bounty hunter scum. Among the filth: Greedo, IG-88 (aka the pain-in-the-ass level boss from Shadows of the Empire), and my favorite underused character, Boba Fett.Add Image

When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth.

Where has the summer gone? My last post was right after the Motor City Comic Con and to be honest, I haven't done much sketching or drawing for that matter due to work and other obligations. But that is about to change. I will be a part of the first annual Detroit Fanfare Oct. 3o-31th in Dearborn. I have alot of ideas in mind and will be posting more frequently. In the meantime, here's a batch of 8 cards I did last week. I'm starting to get into "The Walking Dead" comic series and am loving it. I've had the itch to do some zombie-themed pieces and I saw I had some left over illustration board with the card sizes already drawn out. And no, that's not real blood (though I was thinking about pricking my finger; better thoughts prevailed), it's food coloring.

Motor City Comic Con thoughts and another batch.

Well, the Motor City Comic Con is over and I must say I had a great time. It being my second year in attendance I can say I did very well for myself being more under the radar than others. It was definitely a learning experience, which is good, and I feel that I can grow more as an artist after being around so many great people and other artists.

Having said that, my original sketch cards went over very well and I received alot of great feedback from them. I really enjoy doing them and will continue to do so. Now having said that, here's another batch I whipped up while at the convention (a few I did beforehand, but didn't get a chance to post them. Enjoy.

Comic Con 2.0

This is the first of two prints that will be on hand in Novi. Loosely based on Bub from Day of the Dead and the Obama "CHANGE" posters that came out a while back. I was going to go with a grayscale palette, but decided to go with the colors used on the cover of the DVD. The borders around it will be smaller because I've included bleeds to it.

Comic Con 2.0

I was in a sketch card funk this past week.....big time. Out of 10 I started to draw, I threw out 7. For some reason they just weren't clicking for me. I decided to shift gears and do something bigger. Last year I had a few monotone sketches that people really seemed to dig; something that's one of a kind is pretty special to them I guess. This sucker is 19" x 25". I forgot how much I liked doing these.

Comic Con 2.0

I became really motivated this past weekend and decided to hammer out another set of 8. I'm shifting gears here and opted to do some more Spiderman cards as opposed to Batman cards I decide to throw in each set. I think I'm going to do more classic Spiderman villains such as Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, etc. My personal favorite for this set is the Mark I suit by far.

Comic Con 2.0

Set 5. I had some requests to do some Ghostbusters cards and what better characters to do than Slimer and Stay-Puft. I even added good ol' Destro in there to boot. The Iron Man/ War Machine cards are incomplete; I'll be adding some bells and whistles with paint (think the inside of Tony Starks helmet with all the scans, crosshairs, and the like. I finally got around to doing Two-Face, my all-time favorite Batman villain and I think I'll be doing a couple more of him featuring his different incarnations throughout time.

Comic Con 2.0

Set 4 believers. I did a few requests here including Swamp Thing and V, and a few Dr. Dooms to boot. I was thinking of what to do next and while I was skimming my DVD shelf I came across a personal favorite of mine: The King of Monsters, Godzilla. I don't care what you say about the guy, he's leveled Tokyo so many times, I'm surprised they kept rebuilding it KNOWING he would come back and stomp some green ass. I'm thinking for my next set I'll feature just Godzilla and his monster buddies.

Comic Con 2.0

Here's another 8 for ya hot off the press. This set contains two of my personal favorites thus far: good ol' Marv from Sin City (bottom, 2nd from left) and Mr. Victor Freeze (top, second from right). It really wasn't intentional to have mostly Batman villains in this set, but that's the way the mop flops.

Comic Con 2.0

As promised, here's the second batch of 8 sketch cards I'll be doing for the Motor City Comic Convention in May. Lots more to come.

COMIC COM 2.0

Hey, it's been waaaaay too long since I've posted something and well, the only excuse I have is motivation. Not anymore. The Motor City Comic Convention is coming up in May; a little far off, but I figured I might as well get things done now instead of 2 days before hand like last year. for starters I'm doing sketch cards up the yin-yang, and here is a set to begin with. I'll be posting these 8 at a time as that's all I can fit in my scanner at a time.

I plan on doing as many of these as humanly possible. I'm really diggin' these as they're helping me improve my sketches as a whole and help me draw better on a smaller scale (2.5x3.5 inches). Suggestions on others to do?
